After several relatively calm months, April 2026 began with a severe icing event, which is uncommon so late in the winter season. A second event occurred around mid-month, after which spring temperatures set in, leading to very few icing conditions during the latter half of the month.Despite the quieter end to the month, the icing associated with these two events resulted in April 2026 recording approximately 20% more icing conditions than the historical average for this month at 600 meters. The highest ice indices were observed at mid-elevations, around 600 meters, where the ratio of observed icing hours to the historical average was greatest.
